Fire Cider is an exceptional health tonic with many benefits. It is renowned as a:
- a cold and flu buster
- a wonderful cardio tonic
- a digestive tonic.
Fire Cider is a sweet, and spicy, organic vinegar infused with roots, spices, berries, and fruits and lightly sweetened with unpasteurized honey. It’s a pretty famous tonic that most herbalists make, based on Rosemary Gladstar’s original recipe. Everyone who makes this punchy tonic puts their own unique twist on the original recipe. This year I decided to put ELDERBERRIES in my Fire Cider, for an extra blast of immune enhancement. The colour is so vibrant and rich, I think it’s a keeper!
My Dad originally got me interested in this spicy concoction. He has done an amazing job of keeping himself healthy with natural food medicines and is quite an inspiration! He makes his own Cayenne tincture and “Vein Cleaner”, incredible soups … And for the last couple of years he has made Fire Cider. So, it’s really for him that I started making this.
Fire Cider is considered a Master Tonic because it has so many medicinal benefits.
It is well known as a Cardio Tonic due to the medicinal-food qualities of: garlic, ginger, cayenne, and onion, which remove plaque, lower blood pressure and keep the blood slippery (thin).
As an immune stimulant (a shot of this stuff really kicks a cold in the butt) Fire Cider really heats things up and gets your upper respiratory system running and draining. Our mucous membranes are a front line defender against virus’, and it is SO IMPORTANT to keep things moist.
Fire Cider is also a digestive stimulant which promotes a healthy digestive fire, and tones our system to perform optimally.
Fire Cider is the epitome of using food as medicine and as such is a great addition to your herbal home pharmacy.
How To Use Fire Cider:
- As a daily cardiovascular and immune system tonic; take 5-15ml, 2-3 times per day.
- If you feel a cold coming on; take a tsp. or more every couple of hours while symptoms are present.
- As a digestive tonic, take a tsp or more 10-30 minutes before your meal
- Use as a salad dressing, in a marinade or a flavour enhancer (like you would salt in soups, sauces and stews)
I make a wonderful homemade salad dressing, that my family loves. We also like to dip bread in this dressing.
